FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about your Misto subscription.

Getting started

What are my login options?

You can sign in three ways:

  • Magic link — enter your email and we'll send you a password-free sign-in link.
  • Password — use your existing account password.
  • Shop Pay — tap Login with Shop for a quick, secure sign-in.

All three take you to the same dashboard. If you forget your password, use Forgot Password to reset it.

Will I still be able to see my past subscription information?

Yes. Your full order history is visible on your dashboard under Shipment History, including the coffees you've received and the dates they shipped.

Subscription status

How do I delay my next shipment?

From your dashboard, tap Reschedule and pick a new ship date up to 90 days out. Your queue stays exactly as you left it — nothing ships until the date you choose.

If your subscription is already paused, you'll see a Resume button instead, which puts you back on schedule.

Can I get my coffee sooner?

Yes. Tap Ship Now on your dashboard to send the next coffee in your queue right away instead of waiting for the scheduled date. Your following ship date moves forward from there.

Where can I update my preferences?

Open your dashboard and click Settings. You can adjust roast level, max price, frequency, grind, flavor profile, and more. Changes apply to your next pick.

How do I cancel my subscription?

You can cancel anytime from your dashboard under Settings. If you'd rather take a break, use Reschedule to push your next shipment out — your preferences and queue stay intact for when you're ready.

Not sure? Reply to any Misto email and we'll help you find the right fit before you cancel.

Billing & payment

How do I update my payment method?

Your payment information is stored securely with our payment processor, so you never need to re-enter it for a normal shipment.

To change cards, log into your account and go to Account Settings → Update Payment Information.

Will my subscription price change?

Your current max coffee price will stay the same. However, individual coffee prices may vary because each roaster sets their own pricing.

If a coffee's price is above your current max price, it may no longer be available for your subscription unless you increase your max price. Increasing your max price can give you access to more coffees and more variety.

Prepaid credits & renewals

How does a prepaid subscription work?

You buy coffee credit up front, and each shipment draws from that balance instead of charging your card per order. Your current balance is always shown on the Prepaid Balance card on your dashboard.

How much credit do I get?

Prepaid amounts include bonus credit:

  • $100 → $105 in credit
  • $150 → $165 in credit
  • $200 → $230 in credit

You can choose an amount at signup, or tap Add Funds on your dashboard to top up anytime.

When does my balance renew?

When your balance can no longer cover your next coffee, we charge your saved card for the amount you chose so your shipments don't stop.

By placing this order you agree that your balance renews automatically. You can cancel anytime from your dashboard.

How do I stop automatic renewals?

Cancel anytime from your dashboard under Settings. Cancelling stops future renewal charges — any credit already on your balance stays available for shipments.

Want to keep the coffee but slow it down? Use Reschedule to push your next ship date out instead — a smaller balance lasts longer.
Do gift balances renew too?

No. Gift credit never renews and never charges a card — it simply runs out when the shipments it covers are used. Only prepaid balances you purchased yourself renew automatically.

Coffee & taste

What's a good low-acid coffee?

You're not alone if you're looking for a smoother, gentler cup. Acidity in coffee is influenced by everything from roast level to region to how it's brewed. Here's how to lean low-acid with your beans:

Look for:

  • Lower elevation origins like Indonesia (Sumatra), Brazil, Mexico, or India
  • Flavor notes that are chocolatey, nutty, earthy, or full-bodied
  • Processing methods like natural, honey, or semi-washed
  • Darker roasts (they're typically lower in acidity)
  • Blends, which are often crafted for balance and a smooth finish

Other pro tips:

  • Cold brew it: brewing with cold water can reduce acidity by up to 70%. You can even heat it up afterward if you prefer a hot cup.
  • Try decaf: decaf coffees are often lower in acidity and easier on the stomach.
  • Don't sip on an empty stomach: your belly will thank you.

How many cups of coffee do I get per bag?

That depends a bit on how strong you like your brew — but here's the general idea:

  • 12 oz bag = ~24 cups
  • 11 oz bag = ~22 cups
  • 10 oz bag = ~20 cups

That's based on 8 oz cups using the Specialty Coffee Association's recommended ratio: about 13.3g (or 0.5 oz) of coffee per cup. Prefer a bolder brew? You might get fewer cups. Like it mellow? You'll stretch it a little farther.

Why did I receive a roast level I didn't expect?

Roast levels can be confusing. Every roaster has their own definition of what counts as "light," "medium," or "dark" — one roaster's light might look a lot like another's medium-dark.

To clarify things, we developed our own roast level system. It's based on taste and science (we're nerds about it) so we can stay consistent across all our roasters and help you get coffee that truly matches your vibe.

We taste and measure every new coffee using a colorimeter — a tool that uses near-infrared light to assess the roast level of both whole and ground beans. We combine that data with flavor notes to place each coffee on our roast spectrum:

  • Light: pale brown, no oil, dry surface
  • Medium Light: slightly darker, still dry
  • Medium: solid brown, may show a hint of oil
  • Medium Dark: rich brown, oils just beginning to show
  • Dark: deep brown with a shiny, oily surface
  • Very Dark: almost black and very oily

If your coffee came from your Coffee Profile, your curator picked something to match your preferences. Still not quite right? We can fine-tune your roast level, even down to the in-between shades. Email us at info@mistobox.com and we'll help dial it in.

Whole bean or ground coffee — which should I choose?

It really comes down to what you value most in your coffee routine.

If flavor is your #1 priority and you have a burr grinder at home, we recommend going with whole bean. Grinding fresh right before you brew locks in the best flavor and aroma.

No burr grinder? You're not alone. A lot of folks use blade grinders, but here's the deal: blade grinders don't grind evenly — they chop, which can lead to over- or under-extracted coffee (aka sour, bitter, or just plain off).

That's why we offer freshly ground coffee from our roasters, using commercial-grade burr grinders. It's ground just right for your brew method and delivers a reliably delicious cup, even if you don't have fancy gear at home.

Bottom line:

  • Have a burr grinder? Go with whole bean.
  • Don't have one? Pre-ground coffee from the roaster will likely taste better than coffee ground at home with a blade grinder.

You can always switch between whole bean and ground coffee in your subscription preferences.

Doesn't grinding coffee make it go stale?

Yes — ground coffee starts to lose its aromatic magic faster than whole beans. But freshness isn't the only thing that matters when it comes to flavor.

Here's the twist: if coffee isn't ground evenly (especially with a blade grinder), you'll likely get an uneven brew that tastes sour, bitter, or just kinda off — even if it's freshly ground.

That's why our roasters use commercial burr grinders to dial in the perfect grind size for your brew method. It ensures a consistent extraction and a smoother, more balanced cup.

So while ground coffee loses aroma faster than whole beans, having it ground professionally and evenly can actually lead to a better-tasting brew — especially if you don't own a burr grinder.

What are coffee tasting notes?

Tasting notes are the subtle flavors you might pick up in your cup — like citrus, caramel, or chocolate — and they're one of the best ways to figure out which coffees you truly love.

Quick heads up: none of our coffees are flavored. Those notes on the bag come naturally from the bean itself. The final flavor is shaped by where the coffee was grown and how the roaster brought out its unique character.

Over time, learning to spot tasting notes can help you fine-tune your preferences and explore new coffees with more confidence.

What are the different coffee types?

There are a few main types of coffee you'll see when browsing Misto:

Blends — coffees sourced from multiple locations and combined to create a balanced, consistent flavor profile. They're often roasted to a medium or dark level, making them approachable and versatile for a variety of brew methods.

Single Origin — coffees from one specific region, farm, or lot. They're typically roasted light to medium to showcase the unique flavors of their origin — think bright, fruity, or floral notes that shine through in the cup.

Espresso — coffees roasted or blended with espresso in mind. That doesn't mean you can't brew them with other methods; they're just especially tasty pulled as a shot. Expect rich, syrupy, and bold profiles.

Want help picking your favorite type? You can update your preferences anytime in Settings, or email us at info@mistobox.com and we'll help match you.

How do I clean my coffee equipment?

Drip / auto coffee machine or espresso machine: we recommend cleaning products made by Urnex — one of the most trusted brands in the coffee industry for keeping professional and home equipment clean.

Chemex, V-60, AeroPress, or other manual brewing devices: hand wash unless otherwise recommended by the manufacturer.

For espresso machines specifically, regular backflushing and descaling keep shots tasting their best — refer to your machine's manual for the recommended schedule.

Orders & shipping

Where can I see my upcoming coffee shipment?

Your dashboard Queue shows what's coming next. The first card displays the coffee and the date it will ship.

Where can I find tracking information?

You'll receive a tracking email from the roaster once your order ships. You can also view past tracking links from your Shipment History on the dashboard.

Can I change my shipping address?

Yes. Open Settings on your dashboard and update your shipping address. We verify the address and sync it to your active subscription so your next order ships to the right place.

Can I change an order after it has been processed?

We send an email before your coffee is shipped so you can delay or make changes to the coffee before the roaster ships your order. Once the coffee is shipped, we can't make any changes to that order.

Gift subscriptions & credits

What happens to my existing credit balance?

Your credit balance is visible on your dashboard and automatically applies to upcoming coffee shipments.

Gift credit runs out when it's used up and never charges a card. A prepaid balance you bought yourself renews automatically unless you cancel — see Prepaid credits & renewals.

My gift code doesn't work. How do I redeem my gift?

Visit mistobox.com/gift/redeem and enter the code from your gift email. If the code still doesn't work, reply to your gift email or contact info@mistobox.com and we'll get you sorted right away.

How can I see how many shipments or credits I have left?

Your remaining shipments and credit balance are shown on the Prepaid Balance card on your dashboard.

Can credits be used toward future coffee shipments?

Yes. Credits are automatically applied to your next eligible coffee shipment — no code or checkout step needed.
